LED lighting update

LED the basics

LEDs or light emitting diodes are highly energy efficient. LEDs have been around for decades, first commercially used in panel lights. Appearing as practical electronic components in 1962, early LEDs emitted low-intensity red light, but modern versions are available across the visible, ultraviolet, and infrared wavelengths, with very high brightness.

They can have long life – lasting up to 50,000hrs. This equates to 50 times the average incandescent lamp (at 1000hrs) and up to 5 times the life of most fluorescent lamps (at 10,000hrs).

Ceiling fan innovation

Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans have become popular because people have found they can save on energy costs while satisfying decorative needs and increasing personal comfort. A ceiling fan (without a light) draws on average 40 watts of power on medium speed. Based on 19 cents per kilowatt hour, it would cost less than 20 cents to operate your ceiling fan for 24 hours.

New trends, New ideas

LED friendly TIGER

The TIGER transformer is "LED FRIENDLY". It has been designed to work with 12v MR16 LED lamps as well as conventional halogen lamps.

MR16 LED lamps are designed for use with MOST 12v electronic transformers, not all. They work better with some than others.

12v Electronic transformer are generally rated at "20-60vA" and are designed for use with halogen MR16 lamps from 20 to 50 watts. If you apply a load lower than 20w they generally don't work (they need at least 20vA of load to work).

To overcome this the MR16 LED lamp has circuitry inside it to "trick" a 20-60vA transformer into thinking it draws enough current and the transformer works, providing sufficient current to operate the lamp.

    Lighting Design Considerations

    By the use of well designed lighting you can create a house around your lifestyle that is a functional as it is beautiful. Lighting can be used to accentuate or highlight areas of a room, or to provide illumination for general tasks. It is important to consider your lighting design. Lighting should not just happen.

    When planning a room, ask yourself this question:

    “Should the lighting in this room be functional or decorative or both?”

    Lighting has 3 Basic Functions

    It provides general of background lighting in room;

    As task lighting, which provides specific light for activities such as reading or cooking. This type of light should be concentrated in the area where it is needed;

    As accent lighting, which creates a mood within a room, such as highlighting a special architectural feature, a painting or a special piece of furniture.

    Setting the Mood

    Lighting is an under-used tool in interior design, yet its effects can make or break a room. Too stark, and lighting will kill the best décor. But subtle lighting effects will add depth and mood to the simplest of rooms.

    Most decorators know that proper lighting is fundamental to good home design. When lighting becomes an afterthought, which often happens, it limits options.
